PHMB Antibacterial Alginate Dressing is a sterile, single-use dressing consisting of calcium alginate fiber treated with polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB)，which is a brand new advanced wound care product. It solves the passivated problem of chemical reaction between alginate and PHMB, which provides safe and good 7-day antimicrobial activities for infected wounds. This dressing not only has alginate property of providing moist wound environment, but also offers PHMB advantage of highly effective safety. 

PHMB Antibacterial Alginate Dressing has rapid effectiveness against multi-drug resistant bacteria, such as MRSA and VRE, with a 99.99% bactericidal rate on the first day, and maintains this effect for the next 2-7 days.

How does PHMB work?

PHMB has been in use for 60 years in Europe and US. It is highly cationic, and attracts various kinds of bacteria, which are usually negatively charged. It is believed to adhere to and disrupt

target cell membranes, causing them to leak potassium ions and other cytosolic components, which results in cell death. 

1. Bacteria are absorbed into PHMBAntibacterial Alginate Dressing along with the wound exudate.

2. PHMB with cations in the dressing easily attracts bacteria with anions.

3. The binding of anion and cation disrupts the integrity of bacterial cell membrane.

4. Loss of cell membrane function leads to leakage of cellular components and accelerates bacterial death.

5. Bacteria will be removed along with the dressing during dressing change.

6. By effectively managing the bioburden, the wound will gradually heal.
