Polyurethane wound dressing:

1. Foam dressing includes non-adherent foam dressing, foam dressing with polyurethane film, self-adherent foam dressing and silver ion foam dressing.
2. Silicone foam dressing, hydrocolloid foam dressing are wound dressings combined with foam.
3. Silver ion foam dressing protects wounds from bacterial penetration while reducing the bioburden in a wound bed.
4. Adhesive part of self-adherent foam dressing is made of extra thin hydrocolloid dressing which can enhance wound healing.

Foam dressings can be used on wounds that have softened necrotic tissue. They are also flexible and can be cut to fit specific body parts like toes, fingers, or ears. Because of their thermal properties, foam dressings can be used on a wound which needs insulation to keep it warm. Additionally, foam dressings can be helpful in protecting the skin on top of bony prominences or high friction areas on the skin.

Mechanisms:

Different types of foam dressings are the similar as the functional principle. The foam dressings effectively absorbs exudate from the wound, and provides a moist wound healing environment to accelerate wound healing in the action of top polyurethane film. Foam dressings are divided into two categories, general foam dressing and silicone foam dressing. 

General foam dressing products are divided into foam dressing without border and foam dressing with border. They can absorbs up to 15 times exudates of its own weight, helps to reduce dressing change frequency. Foam dressing with border can provide self-adhesive effect.

Specification:

Apply to different phase of wound, especially to heavy exudated wound. Adaptable to I-II degree burn and scald wound.
